Felony Friday Ep. 033 - Former Police Officer Diane Goldstein Calls for Marijuana Legalization

August 19, 2016
00:0000:00

Former Police Officer Diane Goldstein joins Felony Friday host John Odermatt to discuss the failure of the Drug War and the merits of a California ballot initiative to legalize marijuana. The Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA), an initiative to legalize marijuana in the state, will be on the November ballot.

Diane's Background

Diane is a speaker and Executive Board Member for Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP.) She guest lectures on criminal justice and drug policy reform. Furthermore, Diane also provides radio and television political commentary and contributes to multiple media outlets.

Prior to her time with LEAP Diane served for 21 years as a member of law enforcement. She has worked in various assignments starting as a patrol officer and culminating as the first woman lieutenant for the City of Redondo Beach.  In addition, Diane was one of the founders of the California Association of Hostage negotiators (CAHN) and she is also a subject matter expert and trainer in crisis negotiations and the integration of verbal and physical tactics during critical incidents.

Diane is the second LEAP member to appear on the Felony Friday show. On Episode 3 Regina Hufnagel joined the show to discuss her transformation from correctional officer to a Drug War opponent. LEAP is a nonprofit organization made up of current and former members of the law enforcement and criminal justice communities who speak out about the failures of existing drug policies. LEAP has the stated goal of ending the War on Drugs all together.

Show Highlights

  • The specific changes Prop 64 makes to marijuana prohibition are discussed in depth.
  • Diane shares the seven current criminal activities that Prop 64 makes completely legal.
  • Taxation of marijuana is controversial in libertarian circles, but if Prop 64 passes where will the tax money be channeled?
  • Prop 64 would help minors with non-violent drug offenses by automatically expunging their record upon turning 18-years-old.
  • What arguments are police using in opposition to Prop 64?

Key Takeaway: CA Should Vote to Legalize Marijuana

Prop 64 certainly has it's problems. In an more free and principled society marijuana would be as legal as tomatoes. Prop 64 doesn't go that far, but we can't allow the shortcomings of the initiative to prevent us from gaining some inches in the battle to restore individual liberty.

August 17, 2016
00:0000:00
In today's episode of Lions of Liberty, host Marc Clair welcomes back Thaddeus Russell, history professor and author of "A Renegade History of the United States", for Part 2 of their extensive interview! They dig into the content of Thaddeus' book, and touch on Russell's objections to libertarianism.

In the show they discuss:
  • The likely truth behind Crispus Attucks, the man considered the first casualty of the American revolution, who was killed by British soldiers during the Boston Massacre.
  • The shocking similarities between FDR's "New Deal" and the fascist programs in place in both Nazi Germany and Mussolini's Italy in the 1930's.
  • The Black Lives Matter movement - where they are correct, and where they have gone horribly, inconceivably wrong.
  • An outrageous story involving a (former) friend of Thaddeus' reaction to the revelation that his friend, Kmele Foster, would vote for neither Donald Trump nor Hillary Clinton.
  • What is Thaddeus' objection to the non-aggression principle?
  • So much more, that it doesn't even all fit into this episode!

Felony Friday Ep. 032 - Judges Gone Wild! Anthony Pappas Shares His Civil Court Nightmare

August 12, 2016
00:0000:00

Today on Felony Friday host John Odermatt is joined by Anthony Pappas.  Anthony shares a remarkable personal story of a judge, accountable to nobody, who completely fabricated a story. In written decision this judge labeled Anthony a terrorist, comparable to the perpetrator of the Fort Hood massacre, and as a violent Class B felon.

Most people would be shocked that a judge has the unchecked power to operate in this manner, without any checks and balances. However, in the U.S. there is no effective accountability over the Judiciary branch of the government. The precedence for this judicial immunity is granted by the ruling in the case of Stump v. Sparkman, which we discuss in-depth during the podcast. This means that in family courts and civil courts a single judge can make capricious and arbitrary decisions regarding a person's children, property, and well-being, including incarceration.

Anthony was gracious enough to share his story and we hope to have him back on in the future to discuss some other cases where judicial immunity has led to some catastrophic results. Anthony is a man with a long and downright impressive background. He was born in New York City and graduated from Stuyvesant H.S. He earned a Bachelor's degree from M.I.T. in 1965 with a major in Economics and minor in Mathematics. Anthony went on to earn a Master's Degree and a Ph. D. in 1971 from Yale University in Economics. He has been a college professor in Department of Economics & Finance at St. John's University since 1976, and continues today. Anthony also, has owned and operated securities brokerage firms spanning 1975 to 2013.

235. Free Trade, or Rigged Trade? Jen Briney on the TPP

August 10, 2016
00:0000:00
In today's episode of Lions of Liberty, host Marc Clair welcomes back Jen Briney, host of the Congressional Dish podcast, back to the show to break down the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The TPP has been a subject of a lot of conversation surrounding the Presidential race, and nobody that we've found has done more research on this subject than Ms. Briney.

In the show they discuss:
  • What exactly is the TPP, and why is Jen so adamantly opposed to it?
  • How TPP expands the already-existing Investor State Dispute Settlement System (ISDS), and how that can impact states and local communities here in the United States.
  • How the TPP and other international agreements like it are contributing to a larger push towards global governance.
  • The positions of the Presidential candidates on TPP: Why we can't trust Hillary on the issue, why Donald has been the most consistent on it (along with Bernie Sanders), and what's the deal with Gary Johnson's recent waffling on it?
  • So much more!

234. Mr. Johnson’s Libertyhood Ep. 4: CNN Townhall…Again!

August 8, 2016
00:0000:00

Welcome back to Mr. Johnson's Libertyhood, our regular feature wherein we’ll look at the ongoing actions of Libertarian Presidential Candidate Gary Johnson and his Siamese twin Bill Weld. Longtime listeners will recognize the format, as it follows the popular Rand Pauluses and Minuses formula, however this time we’ll be grading Gary with JohnsONs for statements that we see as positive for liberty, and JohnsOFFs for those that bring shame upon the house of liberty.

This week Brian McWilliams is joined by legal counsel Rico to discuss the most recent CNN Townhall event, hosted by Anderson Cooper. Rico and Brian discuss topics ranging from education, 2nd Amendment rights and Black Lives Matter through to Gary's inability to articulate Libertarian concepts in this jam packed episode.

Won't you be our neighbor?

Felony Friday Ep. 031 - John Ziegler Releases Emails Shedding New Light on Sandusky Penn State Scandal

August 5, 2016
00:0000:00

Nationally-syndicated radio host, documentary filmmaker and author John Ziegler joins Felony Friday host John Odermatt for a third time to discuss the fatally flawed media narrative known as the Jerry Sandusky scandal. John Ziegler has appeared two time previously on this show to discuss the scandal. On episode 8 and episode 14 of Felony Friday Ziegler exposed flaws in almost every aspect of the case.

Why is John Ziegler back for a third time to discuss this scandal?

Two reasons. First, to discuss the recent media firestorm that resulted from unsealed documents that were part a court case between Penn State and their insurance company. The case centered upon disputes over which entity is responsible for paying some claimants included in the $100 M of victim settlement payments. The documents included contained victim depositions that alleged Joe Paterno and other Penn State coaches knew as early as 1976 that Jerry Sandusky was allegedly abusing boys.

The second and perhaps a more important reason for John coming back is to release a chain of emails that will put to rest the rumor that a video exists of Jerry Sandusky abusing a boy. These emails, along with part of a letter Jerry wrote last month in prison, you can find below. They are being released exclusively through Lions of Liberty.
