LoLP 164: Jen Briney of Congressional Dish!
Monday Dec 07, 2015
Monday Dec 07, 2015
In today's episode, host Marc Clair is joined by the host of the "Congressional Dish" podcast, Jen Briney! Jen tells us how she went from being relatively apolitical to starting to question things while living in Germany during the Iraq War, and years later sprung into action after viewing a shocking admission from a Congressman on C-Span. Marc and Jen discuss just what those Congress critters have been up to lately, including the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and whether it's really about "free trade", and an interesting bill which ties in all the way back to the 2001 Anthrax attacks. Marc and Jen discuss Hillary Clinton's claim to be a "woman of the people" funded by small donors, and discuss whether or not the recent Cyber Security Bill passed in Congress really makes our private information more secure. All this and more in the latest Lions of Liberty Podcast!

LoLP 161: Thanksgiving Spectacular with the Johnny Rocket Launch Pad! Part 2
Thursday Nov 26, 2015
Thursday Nov 26, 2015
{Warning: Todays' episode contains fairly extensive use of adult language. We blame our guests...)
It's Thanksgiving week, and in this episode we give our thanks like only we know how - by getting together with friends to talk liberty over a few adult beverages! No, it's not just another edition of "Libertarians in Living Rooms Drinking Liquor" - it's our very first crossover podcast, as we join forces with our good friends at the "Johnny Rocket Launch Pad" for Part 2 of our Thanksgiving Liberty Spectacular!
Marc Clair is joined by Lions' co-founders Brian McWilliams and John Odermatt, along with the Launch Pad crew of Johnny "Rocket" Adams, Curt Nelson, and Heather Nixon. We pick up right where we left off in Part 1, as Marc and Johnny still can't quite seem to sort out just whose show this is. The Lions of Liberty crew then undergo the famous "Rocket Fire" treatment, attempting to answer questions about liberty from the Launch Pad. We then turn the tables, as the Johnny and the gang answer questions as the very first guests to step into "The Cat's Cradle." We discuss comic books, global warming, socialism, courts, the Libertarian Party, and so much more, before attempting to dissect just who was more libertarian: the Empire, or the Rebel Alliance.
So pour yourself a beverage, sneak a slice of pumpkin pie early and join us for, if nothing else, the most ridiculous semi-political conversation you've ever been privy to!

Marc Clair is joined by Lions' co-founders Brian McWilliams and John Odermatt, along with the Launch Pad crew of Johnny "Rocket" Adams, Curt Nelson, and Heather Nixon. LoLP 150: James Guzman - Go Borderless!
Monday Oct 19, 2015
Monday Oct 19, 2015
In today's episode, host Marc Clair welcomes writer, consultant and founder of the Borderless Blog and Podcast, James Guzman! James describes how he first caught the liberty and travel bugs, and how he found him seeking a life outside the borders of the United States. Marc and James discuss why everyone - regardless of their political persuasion - should consider traveling and even living abroad. They discuss the benefits of moving abroad as a strategy to achieve greater personal liberty as opposed to committing to remaining in a particular geographic area in spite of the political situation.
James and Marc discuss some of the different roles police play and how they are viewed by the public in other countries vs the United States. James addresses some common objections to moving abroad, and why the "New American Dream" of a cushy job in Silicon Valley isn't all it's cracked up to. Finally, James touches on some of the most popular destinations abroad for American expats.
In the Last Roar (34:09), Marc touches on his own experiences traveling overseas, and encourages listeners with some advice to follow suit.

LoLP 148: Steve Horowitz: "Don't Smash the State!"
Monday Oct 12, 2015
Monday Oct 12, 2015
In today's episode, host Marc Clair welcomes in economist and author Steve Horwitz on his recent article entitled "Don't Smash the State." But first Steve reveals how he first became introduced to the ideas of liberty, Steve and Marc discuss how works of fiction can often be the impetus towards a further philosophical pursuit. Steve explains why he embraced the idea of "pushing the button" to "end the State" overnight when he was a young libertarian, and just what insights made him start to believe this idea might have flaws.
Steve describes his preferred analogy for the state as a "bomb", whose wires must be pulled in the correct order, lest the bomb go off. He explains the reason why he advocates for a measured rollback of coercive legislation, both strategically and morally. Steve and Marc examine some of the first "wires" that could be pulled, and the possible ramifications of pulling the wrong one too early.
In the Last Roar (32:00), Marc explains why it's important for those who advocate for individual liberty to have proper political priorities (sorry, I just can't resist an alliteration opportunity).

Thursday Oct 08, 2015
Thursday Oct 08, 2015
In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair welcomes back resident Rand Paul analyst Brian McWilliams for another edition of “Rand Pauluses and Minuses!”, where they take a look at the comings and goings of the quasi-libertarian Presidential candidate. Brian and Marc discuss how several key Rand Paul donors and supporters are speaking up in one way or another in order to push him towards being more outward with libertarian values. They look at statements from the Rand Paul campaign regarding their recently reported fundraising numbers, and try to make sense of the outdated polling system and it's overvaluation as a measure for participation in political debates. Marc vents (who'd a thunk?) about frustrations felt by many Ron Paul supporters in 2012 when they saw their donations to the campaign diverted to Campaign for Liberty shortly after Jesse Benton pleaded for more funding to continue the Presidential campaign. They then ponder how long Rand Paul will stay in the Presidential race, and a possible dilemma which could see him facing a choice between a struggling Presidential campaign and a Senate seat. Lastly, Marc and Brian touch on the the quasi-endorsement of Rand Paul by new Daily Show host Trevor Noah, and whether it will help Rand's political prospects in any way.

LoLP 146: Nick Hankoff
Monday Oct 05, 2015
Monday Oct 05, 2015
In today's episode, host Marc Clair welcomes in liberty activist and fellow Los Angelean, Nick Hankoff! Nick details how the combined influence of George Carlin, Ayn Rand and Ron Paul set him down the path of liberty activism. Marc and Nick discuss the vibrant liberty scene in Los Angeles and make plans to meet up later that evening at a local liberty "Liberty on the Rocks" event (Editor's Note: and we did!) Nick describes how he and his fellow "liberty kids" attained positions of power in the Los Angeles Republican Party, and emphasizes the importance of building a network to advance liberty. Marc then tosses Nick a curveball and asks him the "Tom Woods Stumper", and they break down possible conflicts between "states rights" and "individual rights." Marc and Nick ponder whether California will join Colorado, Washington and Oregon and put the final nails in the coffin in it's war on marijuana and fully legalize in 2016. Nick then lays out his vision for the "Nick Hankoff Show",
In the Last Roar (35:53), Marc rants about the value of connecting with - and even more importantly, creating - more like-minded people, and stresses the importance of constantly striving for a consistent set of principles.

Thursday Oct 01, 2015
Thursday Oct 01, 2015
In this episode of the Lions of Liberty Podcast, host Marc Clair is joined by Sean Malone, the director and producer of the documentary "Farming in Fear." First Sean explains how he first became interested in the ideas of liberty as a teenager when he found himself asking the question "who owns me?" Sean details how he was able to merge his interest in the ideas of liberty with his passion for filmmaking, leading him to become a creative producer of both short form and long form documentaries with for the Charles Koch Institute. Marc and Sean then discuss his latest project, "Farming in Fear", which tells the story of Martha Boneta, a woman who fulfilled her dream of purchasing and operating a small farm, who quickly found herself facing all sort of government obstacles. Before signing off, Sean addresses critics of the Koch Brothers.
In the Last Roar (29:31), Marc addresses the concept of property rights, and how we can trace nearly every conflict in our society to the lack of a rational conception of property rights.
